记一次失败的面试

昨天HR的人给了我电话，通知我说"put you on hold for two months and we will
definitely follow up with you in January." 其实基本上就是把我给据了。 ：-(

总结一下经验教训吧，趁面试过程在自己脑子里还清晰：

1、面试过程中要学会“见风使舵”。现在想起来我的错误在于别人问我为什么要跳槽
，我反复强调想学习新领域内的东西(这是我面试前准备的答案)。但几个interviewers
在面试过程中其实给我传达的信息就是他们现在急需要能马上培养成manager level的
人，所以需要有leadership & management skills. 事后想想，我一听这个就应该马上
顺着这个方向去说。而我当时肯定表现的象白痴一样，人家有什么义务来培训你学新知
识呢？

2、准备准备再准备！因为这次准备时间不够充分，所以跟几个interviewer讲自己做过
的project几乎都讲了一个。大错特错！因为当他们事后坐下来讨论我做过的project的
事后，肯定会发现我讲的是一个故事。正确的做法应该是：可以给每个人都讲一讲自己
的biggest achievement, 但一定要挑不同方面的project跟他们讲。这样他们最后汇总
的时候才感觉你的经验够丰富。

3、工资待遇一定要等到给offer以后再谈！！这个教训对我来说可真够大的。因为这个
工作是猎头找我的，所以猎头帮我向公司present的最低工资要求非常高，完全就是
manager级别的工资。结果人家对我期望值就很高，但面试的时候我有一个tech
question回答的非常不好，所以人家肯定就觉得我不值这个价。正确的做法应该是等他
们给了offer以后再negotiate, 不能完全给猎头控制！因为猎头在里面有self-
interest.

4、同理，绿卡也要等到给offer以后再谈。我觉得其实这种事情一般大公司都不在乎，
这次面试的这家公司的政策是雇佣满一年以后再办。但我在面试快结束的时候说因为我
现在公司已经开始帮我办绿卡了，能不能给我个特例，刚开始就办。现在想想真是很
stupid, 把工资、绿卡什么的要求都在一开始全部提出，除非你特别牛，否则人家当然
犹豫招你了！

5、每个面试的人都很重要！碰到难的tech question要stay calm! 面试中有一个
manager突然问了我一个很难的tech question, 那个领域我没做过，当时就觉得有点慌
，回答的很不好。但我跟其他五个人面试下来感觉都非常好。其中有一个senior
manager在把我带到director办公室前甚至还告诉我，应该怎么跟这个director(他们组
的大老板)交流。

最后我跟director谈话完以后，director甚至说:"You really have excellent
credentials. The only thing is salary issue. But that's okay. I think we
could work it out. Let me gather feedbacks from the other interviewers and
get back to you as soon as possible. But I'm sure you'll be fine because you
seem great." (一模一样的原话！)

当天下午，在他们没有开会讨论我之前，director还给hiring manager打了个电话，称
赞我相当不错，说"we like her very much."

结果，就因为我的那个tech question没答好，所以就算其他五个人都很喜欢我，但各
种各样的因素(工资、绿卡等等)加起来就让我被ding了。说是说什么put you on hold
for two months, 其实就是还不如直接了当说把我给据了呢！ ：(

好了，唐完了。还好偶现在本身的工作就很不错，也没那么着急的想跳槽。不过这也是
一次非常大的教训了。

我觉得除非是问一模一样的问题，否则最好不要用同样的故事。
一定要多准备几个project! 他们最后会坐在一起讨论汇总的。
你想想看，要是你讲的是一个故事人家还会觉得你经验丰富吗？

Good luck!

But I feel you are over-reacting to the message. You hold high hope for the
offer -- you almost felt you got it already, and now that you lose it, you
blame every tiny bit of "wrong" things you did. Actually I don't think what
you described here are all that faulty. For example, I doubt if the
interviewers will put their heads together and talk about the project you
mentioned. I would guess they have their "impression" on your performance
during the talk and they may grade that already. If you did tell them
different stories, you may again wonder afterwards if that was the wrong way
-- they may suspect you invented something up? etc.

So don't be too hard on yourself. Maybe somebody with very strong background
showed up, and you simply cannot beat him/her. Just move on.

不是，俺是很耐心的看了

可是这里很多文文章的感觉就是

就像一个女的甩了一个男的，一个男的不断自责自己以前哪里做得不好。其实那个
男的根本没有什么不对。

所以俺也就批判的看了。

我站出来说说好了，我犯了好多个你所说的毛病，我说话小声，吃饭的时候搞到其
中一个老印Interviewer都晕倒了，还有我中午吃了Piza，不知道是不是上火了，下
午面试居然留鼻血，还是面对那个Position的TeamLead，但是俺也不管了，拿着纸
巾塞住鼻子就说自己的Project，说到兴起，人家才知道我留鼻血了，真的很奇怪，
来美国第一次，结果，俺现在就等HR的Prove去拿下这个Offer了，公司是Fortune前
50的。俺也不确定能否拿下。

不过俺是民工，Inteviewer也是民工，大家都是不拘小节的，Manager还传足球球衣
面试我呢。我跟他说哪个队的...balabal，原来他晚上去踢足球。Indoor那种...

放松......relax.....那样子才可以发挥出超凡的水平，展现出自己的人格。

听起来不象有什么失败的地方，对方可能对你期望太高，想找team leader or manager
level, but you are just
senior techie。有些位子就是比较难拿，没什么失败可言。
